What is the purpose of the Zoning Board of Appeals?

The Board of Trustees of the Village is responsible for adopting the local zoning law.   The zoning laws of a municipality gives it the ablity to control land use within its boundaries.  Zoning regulates the use, density, physical characteristics, and the siting of development.  The zoning codes/laws are the foundation upon which the zoning board of appeals (ZBA) operates.  The ZBA has no legislative authority and cannot amend the village's zoning laws.  The ZBA hears petitions from residents who request zoning changes or relief for one reason or another usually related to building department applications.
